Transportation MLK Jr. Pkwy Arch Bridge over Raccoon River

In December of 2003, Jensen Construction Company was
awarded a $28 million project to construct the new intersection of MLK Jr.
Parkway at Fleur Drive in Des Moines, Iowa. This project is a joint venture with
United Contractors and includes the construction of three bridges, 500,000 CY of
excavation, 50,000 CY of concrete paving and 600 tons of asphalt paving. Jensen
Construction is built the signature Tied Arch Bridge that is 640 feet long,
100 feet wide, and is approximately 40 feet above the Raccoon River. The $8
million bridge had many difficult formwork challenges as well as a very tight
schedule to meet. Work began on January 12, 2004 and the project took
approximately one year to complete.
